Obituary

On Monday, May 20, 2019, Richard Greer, loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, died at the age of 64 in Lewiston.

Richard was born July 15, 1954, in Clarkston, to Clifford and Anne (Coleman) Greer. He graduated from Clarkston High School in 1972. His commitment to civic duty appeared early in his life, as he progressed through Boy Scouts all the way to the rank of Eagle Scout, like his father before him.

After high school, Richard joined the U.S. Air Force. He returned to Clarkston after 26 years of military service and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in business from Lewis-Clark State College in 2002. After his graduation, he worked as a counselor at Consumer Credit Counseling Services in Lewiston until 2014. Richard was also a member of the Genesee American Legion Post 58.

Richard was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He could explain how to skin a bear in the field and what the proper etiquette was when your fishing line became entangled with someone else’s while trying to avoid the bears on the banks of an Alaskan river.

Richard was a huge baseball fan. For anyone wondering, he was sure that the best seats in the house were in the upper deck behind home plate and that any lesson worth learning in life could be taught on the baseball field.

He was slow to scold but quick to smile with his famous crooked grin.

Richard is survived by his mother, Anne Greer, who was always willing to make “Two dozen of cookies;” his loving wife and favorite traveling companion, Cindy Greer; his daughter, Sandra Miller; son-in-law Mark; and his grandsons, Reese Andrew and Matthew Don Miller. You may have seen pictures of these grandchildren if you ever had the pleasure of standing near him while waiting in line at the grocery store. Richard is also survived by his sister (lifelong partner in crime) and brother-in-law, Diane and Dennis Rousseau, and his baby sister and best buddy, Nancy Greer. He will be missed by two nephews, Brian Rousseau (wife Jennifer and children Teddy and Bernie) and Paul Rousseau (wife Kristi and children Abigail and Callie), who continued the family Eagle Scout and military tradition and one niece, Suzanne Rousseau. Other beloved family members are Richard’s uncle John and aunt Lana Coleman. He was also blessed with friends too numerous to list, but certainly not forgotten.

In his death, Richard is reunited with his father.

And remember, as Richard used to say, “It’ll feel better when it stops hurting.”

There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Vineland Cemetery followed by a memorial service at Merchant Funeral Home.

Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or Helping Hands Rescue.

While there are no words or actions that will take away your pain, we hope you are surrounded by much love and support at this difficult time. Know that God cares about your grief and tears (Psalms 56:8). May the light from God's Word be a guide and comfort through the darkness of your loss (2 Corinthians 1:3,4).
