Obituary for Helen Lehfeldt

Helen Jean (Hannas) Lehfeldt, 82, of Clarkston, was born May 15, 1936, in Garfield County, Wash., to Orle and Maude (Gray) Hannas. She joined brother Orle Junior at the family ranch across the Snake River from Almota. Siblings LeRoy and Sharon completed the family.

Helen attended one-room schoolhouses at Ilia and Mayview until the fifth grade. Her education continued in Pomeroy, where she graduated from Pomeroy High School with the class of 1954. After high school, she worked at the bank in Pomeroy for a year before attending Washington State University. She resumed her banking career in Spokane and finally settled in Clarkston. Helen retired in 1997 after 30 years working at the same bank building at Sixth and Elm streets for Seafirst, Security Pacific, Rainier Bank and National Bank of Commerce.

For years she enjoyed monthly lunches with the “Birthday Girls” and played pinochle twice a week at the Clarkston Senior Center. Helen bowled at Lancer Lanes for Vail’s Office Equipment. She had been a member of the Moose and Eagles organizations. Helen enjoyed traveling the United States and cruises to Alaska, Mexico and the Caribbean. After retirement, her passion was golf. She played in the Ladies League at Bryden Canyon until her health declined.

On Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, Helen left our presence for her eternal home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orle and Maude Hannas, and son, Micheal Roy Kruse, in 2000.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Kruse Lombard) Lehfeldt, Clarkston; grandaughters Vanessa Lombard, Clarkston, and Valerie and Kenny Hammack, Lewiston; and great-grandchildren Korbin, Kyler and Madelynn Jean Hammack.

Her siblings, their spouses and children also survive: Orle Junior and Carol Hannas, St. John, Wash.; LeRoy and Harriet Hannas, Pomeroy; and Sharon Harkins, Arvada, Colo.

Pastors Doran Williams and John Fowler will conduct the graveside service at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, at the Mayview Cemetery (Chapel Hill Road). At noon, friends and family will gather for a luncheon at the Trinity Baptist Church located at Ninth and Sycamore streets in Clarkston. Memorials can be sent to Ronald McDonald House Spokane. Merchants Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The family would like to thank Dr. David Peterson for years of care, Elite Home Health and Hospice nurses who assisted her peaceful passing, and the wonderful staff of TenderCare Homes that provided loving care to our mother, grandmother and sister.
